I had a reasonably relaxed day most of today. Watched two Americans fight it out for a place in the AO semi finals – surprisingly engaging match. Finished reading “Purpose Driven Life”. Got a couple of certified copies of my Driver’s Licences (both Victorian and International) and Passport from the local chemist. Ducked out to a bbq with some new friends.
Got home 9pm-ish to unpack and settle into the latest Djokovic game. Only to find that a quick 3-setter cheated me of that little enjoyment as Djoko had cleaned up in 2 hours and 3 minutes. And I also discovered that somehow I have managed to bring home the certified copies of my licenses and passport, but have lost the originals. Five days before I fly OS. Not brilliant.
I have of course rung the bbq hosts, who’ve kindly checked to see if they fell out when I arrived. No joy. I’ve retraced steps to the chemist who provided the copies – they’re shut, but there was no evidence of dropped documents between the chemist and the bike. I asked two sets of security guards, one of whom kindly checked an empty lost property locker. I’ve re-ridden the routes I took from there back to my current house-sit. Rang the police to report it in case someone found and turned them in, but after 15 minutes on hold the call was cut. Have reported it instead through an online police portal. I suppose that’ll process through in weeks, not days or hours.
Tomorrow is of course a public holiday.
Number one priority right now is to find those documents. Really not sure where to go from here, but I’ll be checking with the shopping centre admin as soon as they’re open – possibly tomorrow but probably Friday given the Australia Day festivities.
Far out. What a completely ridiculous thing to have done. Who loses passport and driver’s licenses all in one, right on the cusp of an international road trip?
Holding my breath to see how this wrinkle unfolds. Feeling a bit yuck about it, but as I can’t think of anything further I can do tonight to help resolve the issue I’m going to have a cup of tea and hit the sack.
I guess there’ll be updates to come, so watch this space.
[Edit, half a cup of tea later; maybe I left them in the chemist’s counter, only picking up the copies and not the originals. I’ll have to check that as first priority if they’re open on Aus Day tomorrow morning.]
