Another stunning NT day – high 30s and hardly a cloud in the sky as I rode the 90 minutes to Litchfield National Park on Wednesday. It was an easy ride, with straight, empty roads. Much of the park was closed for wet season, but there were still some gorgeous waterfalls resplendent in natural glory and building up to peak flow as the dry season fades into sweaty humidity.
The highlight was swimming in a waterhole at the base of one of the falls. Beautiful, warm (but not too hot) water with a preponderance of little (and not so little) fish. Thankfully I’d be warned by a random stranger at a previous waterfall that these little fish like to nibble on our toes. It still came as a shock the first time it happened, but I coped so long as I knew they were coming before they came at me for their first snack! From memory the Thai pay to get the dead skin nibbled off in fish tanks. Still can’t really find the attraction in it myself, but it was what it was.
