Long on kilometres, short on news

There was nothing much to report from today.  So here I am dutifully reporting… well… nothing much.

Today was uneventful; just 740kms (that’s a lot for a day in Asia, but only a short ride in Aus!) of wide, straight, rolling, empty highways, a random 40-foot kangaroo statue, a quick photo at Thailand’s narrowest point, and wrapping up just now with a wild camp site in the middle of someone’s farm.  Here’s hoping I’ll be moved on before anyone is around to complain in the morning.  And here’s to asking and taking good advice on a better route and on worthwhile things to see or do along the way!  I wouldn’t say it was “boring”, exactly, but it wasn’t the most engaging day’s ride of this road trip so far.

I’m a couple of hours south of Bangkok, and plan to take that last leg early tomorrow.  A family friend lives there with whom I’m trying to make contact, and I want to visit the Myanmar embassy just to make quadruply sure I’ve got the right info on the (in-)ability to travel through to India.

I’m still also trying with very limited success to gather data on other ways to get my bike across to India or Bangladesh.  I’ve made half a dozen enquiries about each of sea and air cargo options.  I’ve done enough research to rule out China travel for pragmatic time, cost and effort reasons.  And I’m just a bit stuck.

While I’m getting unstuck, I might as well have a look around south-east Asia.  So I’ll travel this region until I find… well basically until I can find a way out!

I’m writing this in my tent in the pitch dark of the farm, and although it is only 8pm there really isn’t much else for it but an early night, so I’ll switch off now (or maybe start the Java island video editing) and hopefully translate to an early start in the morning.  Time will tell how successful that will be.

In the meantime – goodnight from me. 🙂

Good to hear that you’re safe on your travels. I hope that you will transit through Laos as it is a beautiful country to visit
