Java – DIY camping

The ferry from Bali to Java hardly has time to get to cruising speed before it has to slow for docking.  It was easy, quick, and effective.  From there I’ve ridden down to the south east corner of Java, and had my tent up just before I lost the light, in a spectacular but possibly-dubious location right at the beach.  I’m reasonably hopeful that it is secluded enough to simply not be noticed, and being noticed would probably be a precondition to being asked to move.  I have asked a couple of people who seemed to think it’s ok.  Here’s hoping there wasn’t a “… not ….” lost somewhere in translation?

With the help of Google Translate’s photo feature I learned from a close-by tourist centre that if there are earth tremors I’ll have about 20 minutes to get to safety.  That’d be a bit of a dampener on my beachside camping!  The issue will simply be waking, I suppose.  If I can achieve that I’m sure my GSA can outrun the wave. 🤗

The weather app says it’s high 20s but with humidity feels like 32.  I’m absolutely dripping, and would have said its more like 40-something.  I’m cooped up in the tent right now because I’m out of insect repellent.  Will have to fix that in the morning.  There seem to be quite a few bities around.

But those are small issues, and otherwise it is a spectacular place.  Oh.  And the mosquitos (ooops there I go again; I mean mosques!) are still blaring.  I can’t quite bring myself to put that in the “small issues” list, but it is what it is.  Aaaah the serenity!

Tomorrow is a rest day.  From a quick google just now I unfortunately appear to be in a churchless location, but I’ll improvise and do my own worship service on the beach.  There won’t be “two or three gathered together”, mores the pity, but it will be glorious nonetheless.  I’ll hang at the beach, or maybe go exploring through the nearby township.  Will just let the day play out as it does.
