Somehow there the mills seem to have sprung a rumour that I’m on my way to Singapore. Sorry to disappoint – that’s just not true. I’m still sweating it out in Darwin.
It seems that my best action is still inaction; still just waiting to see what unfolds. Waiting hasn’t ever been a comfortable disposition for me, and now is no exception.
But as of tomorrow, although I can’t change the “what” (I’m still waiting), I’ll shift the “where”, and am grateful for a second house-sit. While the previous home was a week over Christmas within walking distance from church, this new one will be a fortnight on the church grounds. Yes, for that fortnight I have become the church caretaker! I’ll do a bit of mowing, keep the grounds appropriately locked and then unlocked and then locked again, and make sure air conditioners are either on or off as appropriate. I think I can manage that, especially since it will give me a (mini-)home of my own for the time. Thank you, Trev.
And also as of tomorrow, I’ll shift “how” I’m waiting. A couple of mornings a week I’ve been asked/offered to drive delivery trucks for Food Bank – the charity that salvages otherwise wasted food from supermarkets and restaurants for those doing it tough. I reckon that’ll be mostly in air-con too, so that’s all my Christmases come at once! More than that, it will be a blessing to have a bit of rhythm in my week.
I had been thinking – and also challenged by others – to find more productive ways to spend the waiting time. So this is a timely additional focus, and great to have a small focus beyond my own horizon. And I’ll keep a bag of spuds aside for you while I’m on it.
I am of a mind to bring this Darwin chapter to a close one way or the other after this fortnight’s caretaking. I’ll test that idea over the next few days just to make sure I’m not getting ahead of myself. That “chapter close” would either require breakthrough this month on the Timor/Indonesia Covid vax issue (no, sorry, I don’t mean “taking the jab”), or acknowledging defeat and changing plans.
If you know me at all well you’ll know that this second path would not sit easily.

Hi Daniel
Sounds like you are having (useful) adventures in Darwin being church caretake and driving for foodbank. Praying for you”
Provers 3:5,6
‘Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.’
Revelation 3:7b
‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one shall shut, who shuts an no one opens.’
Sounds like Indonesia may be reviewing is jab policy (from earlier comments). There is hope.
Warm regards
David
